Pedestrian seriously injured on Bedford Avenue

An 81-year old male pedestrian was struck by a car at about 6:40 a.m. on Sunday morning, Nassau County Police said. The unidentified pedestrian was hit by a 70-year-old male driving a 2005 Jeep Wrangler southbound on Bedford Avenue.

According to police, the pedestrian was struck while crossing from east to west in front of St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church. He sustained serious injuries, including head trauma, and was rushed by police ambulance to a local hospital.

Detectives report no apparent criminality surrounding the accident. The vehicle was impounded by police for a safety check.
