Play ball! Bellmore Little League celebrates spring

Posted

The Bellmore Little League season is in full swing, and more than 150 children marched on Saturday to celebrate. The season started in early April, but officials held off the parade in the hope of sunnier weather. The wait paid off, and players took to the street and marched from Bedford Avenue to the Bruce H. Gary Memorial Field of Heroes.

From T-ball players to teen softball players, the streets of Bellmore were lined with children suited up in their uniforms and proudly displaying team banners.

"The parade is designed to get the players and the community excited about Bellmore Little League and show some spirit for the community," said Andrew Nachamie, commissioner of the Rookie Division.

The parade was followed by a ceremony at the Bruce Gary memorial field with state Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., Assemblyman Dave McDonough, Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg, Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, town Clerk Mark Bonilla, and Bellmore School District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Famularo in attendance. The children also enjoyed snacks provided by the Bellmore Little League.
