Police respond to Facebook threat at MAMS

Police responded to Merrick Avenue Middle School this morning at around 9:30 a.m. to investigate a threat made on Facebook that authorities called "fictitous."

"There was no threat to the school," a spokesman for the Nassau County Police Department said.

In a statement, school officials said, "Upon learning of certain allegations, the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District immediately contacted the police and is working closely with local law enforcement officials. In accordance with federal law, school districts are required to keep all issues pertaining to individual student conduct strictly confidential. Therefore, it would be inappropriate to further comment on this issue."

Police would not disclose information regarding what was written on Facebook.
