Special election set for McKevitt's Assembly seat

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced a special election to fill a number of vacant State Senate and Assembly seats, including that of former Assemblyman Tom McKevitt, who left the Assembly to serve in the Nassau County Legislature last year.

McKevitt served 12 years in the Assembly, before running for former Legislator Norma Gonsalves’s seat on the Legislature once she announced her retirement. “It was primarily family considerations,” said McEvitt, who has two children, age 8 and 10. “I felt I did a lot of good work up there and I had a lot of good relationships, but at this stage of life, it’s best to be home.”

According to Gov. Cuomo, the special election will be held on April 24.
