Bellmorites interested in cooking with fresh, organic produce this summer and fall needn’t search farther than their own community. For the fourth season, the Garden at St. Mark’s is selling vegetables at the farm stand behind an Episcopal church.
The stand opened on June 29, and volunteers will continue to set up shop at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings throughout the fall. All produce comes from the 500-square-foot organic garden on the grounds of St. Mark the Evangelist Church, at 1692 Bellmore Ave. in North Bellmore.
The mission of St. Mark’s Garden is to have the community work together to enhance the environment through organic farming. Volunteers send the bulk of the vegetables that they grow to the Long Island Council of Churches Emergency Food Pantry in Freeport.
They also put vegetables on sale at the farm stand, donating all proceeds to charity. Cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, radishes, turnips, tomatoes, and various greens and beans are available for purchase throughout the summer, with produce changing with the seasons.
The farm stand will be open this Sunday, Aug. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. More information about the garden is available on its Facebook page (
