Two Kennedy seniors named Coca-Cola semifinalists

Kennedy High School seniors Melissa Rosenblum and Kayla Babbush have been named semifinalists in the 2012 Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Program. The pair were among 2,200 students nationwide (out of 84,000) to be recognized in this merit-based program because of their demonstrated leadership skills, volunteer efforts in their communities and academic achievements.

Semifinalists must complete applications that include essays, official transcripts and two letters of recommendation. The Coca-Cola Foundation’s Program Review Committee will then select 250 finalists to advance to an interview phase.

In April, the 250 finalists will be invited to Atlanta for their interviews. Finalists will be interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing leaders in business, government, education and the arts. Fifty students will be designated as National Scholars and receive awards of $20,000 for college; 200 students will be designated as Regional Scholars and receive awards of $10,000 for college.
