Vandals destroy Little League concession stand

Posted

The concession stand and surrounding area at Saw Mill Road Field in North Bellmore was vandalized sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, said Sam Acri, vice president of the North Bellmore-North Merrick Little League.

Acri said that people left the field after games on Saturday around 5 p.m. and returned around 7 a.m. on Sunday for games to find the area vandalized. "They tossed everything around in the concession stand," Acri said. The vandals damaged the steel door in front of the concession stand and broke the microwave and the carts inside it. Four wooden picnic tables in the concession area were smashed, and the metal bleachers were flipped over.

Police were called to the scene, where they surveyed the damage. Nassau County Detective Sgt. Anthony Repalone said that the incident was reported as a burglary because the vandals broke into the concession stand. However, there was no money reported missing.

The vandals also caused damage to the bathrooms. Acri said that they had taken pieces of wood and shoved them into the bathroom ceiling. The soap dispensers and toilet paper holders were also ripped off the walls. Despite the damage, Sunday's games continued, but patrons did not have use of the bathrooms.
