School District election results are in

Budget approved and new trustee elected to Board of Education

East Meadow School District officials reported election results late Tuesday evening.

The $195.79 million 2016-17 spending plan overwhlemingly passed with 83.3 percent of the vote. Exactly 2,173 residents voted in support of the budget, according to the district; 436 community members voted against it. ]

The spending plan inclues a tax levy increase of .04 percent. Superintendent Leon Campo said it maintains all instructional and co-curricular programs.

A new Board of Education trustee was elected on May 17 as well. Matthew Melnick, a lawyer and father of young Barnum Woods Elementary School students, defeated incumbent Jeffrey Rosenking, 1,581 votes to 847.

Two veteran board members ran unopposed and were re-elected. Joseph Parisi received 1,874 votes, and 1,818 residents voted for Marcee Rubinstein. 

Comprised of nine schools, the East Meadow School District takes in students from East Meadow and the Salisbury section of Westbury.
