A gunfire altercation between Nassau County police and an East Meadow resident resulted in the arrest of Jason Wissel, who first attracted the attention of police after getting into a dispute with a neighbor regarding a parking situation earlier in the day, police say.

Shortly before 9 p.m. on June 18, police say an argument between Wissel, 49, and his neighbor escalated to Wissel threatening him with a gun. Wissel returned to his home, and shortly thereafter, officers from the county’s first precinct, emergency service unit, canine unit and special operations established a perimeter around his Stanley Road home.

Wissel exited his home through the front door, police say, and pointed a sawed off shotgun and long rifle at them. “The suspect pointed these weapons at approaching officers, placing them in fear for their lives,” according to an NCPD press release.”

Police say the officers fired at Wissel, disarming him of his weapons. He sustained “minor injuries,” was treated at the Nassau University Medical Center, released, and placed under arrest. Several weapons and ammunition was found in his home in a subsequent search, police say, which was removed and stored for further investigation.

Wissel was arraigned on June 20 in First District Court in Hempstead. He is charged with second-degree menacing and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. A request to the D.A.’s office for Wissel’s attorney was not responded to by press time.
