A Kiwanian Thanksgiving tradition

The East Meadow Kiwanis Club once again hosted its 33rd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at East Meadow High School last Sunday.

Each year, the club invites seniors to the school’s auditorium, and feeds them a full plate of Thanksgiving dinner, free of cost. About 300 people attended this year’s event, according to Mitchell Allen, an event co-chairperson.

Allen, with fellow event co-chairpersons Mitchell Skoller, and Frank and Joan Saracino, prepared the food in the school’s cafeteria.

Students from East Meadow High School’s Key Club and Future Business Leaders of America helped serve the food. Also lending a hand were members of the Woodland Builders Club, the W.T. Clarke Key Club and Builders Club, and the Bowling Green K-Kids.

The dinner originated 35 years ago, but it was Frank and Joan Saracino who took the reigns two years later, making it a Kiwanis event. This year marked the last time that the Saracinos would co-chair the event, and the Kiwanis surprised the couple by honoring them for their years of dedication and commitment.

Monica Marotta opened the festivities with the National Anthem. Other performers included the East Meadow jazz ensemble directed by Stephen Engle, vocalist Odette Peralta and a dance performance by the Dancealoha Troupe.
