A new year of service for East Meadow Kiwanis

Service organization inducts officers at installation brunch

Posted

The Kiwanis Club of East Meadow ushered in a new era on Sunday by installing its new officers for the 2010-11 term at a brunch held in the Hempstead Golf and Country Club.

Harry Demiris succeeds Jim Mancuso as president of the largest Kiwanis club in the state.

“The way I define our club, it’s a group of totally different people who have nothing in common other than their generosity and their caring,” Demiris said. “Those two common traits bring everybody together and have made them not only friends, but Kiwanis friends — brothers and sisters.”

Demiris, 45, has been a member of Kiwanis for six years. He is a veteran of the Gulf War who served as a U.S. Navy officer from 1988 to 1993. Demiris graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. in 1988. He earned his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law.

Demiris, who lives in Garden City with his wife and three children, grew up in Valley Stream and later opened his own private law practice in

Westbury.

He is currently an attorney for Abrams Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Greenberg, Formato & Einiger, where he has been a partner for five years.
