A Salisbury holiday celebration

CASA hosts annual tree and menorah lighting

Posted

Hot cocoa, seasonal jingles and a visit from Santa Claus highlighted the festivities at the Community Association of Stewart Avenue’s annual holiday lighting on Dec. 10.

People of all ages stopped by the green next to Carvel on Carman Avenue in Salisbury, across from the pool.

CASA president Helen Meittinis welcomed guest dignitaries, and thanked supporters of the event and the organization.

The W.T. Clarke High School Tri-M Music Honors Society, Chorale, Jazz Choir and American Sign Language students performed several holiday favorites. Ornaments and bows for the giant tree were handmade and donated with the help of Girl Scout Troops No. 1081, No. 1248 and No. 1640, as well as the Bowling Green K-Kids and the W.T. Clarke Middle School Builders Club.

Children and their parents waited in a long line to see Santa, who stopped by on an East Meadow fire truck.

After the sun set on a chilly evening, the event culminated with the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree and Hanukkah menorah.
