All in a life's work for Alan Hodish

Life’s WORC, a private, not-for-profit organization providing comprehensive support for individuals with developmental disabilities, announced today the honoree for its upcoming “24th Annual Gerald Rivera Golf and Tennis Classic.” This year’s honoree is Alan B. Hodish, Esq., a widely-recognized and honored former teacher/ coach and attorney. The event will take place on Thursday, May 19 at the Plandome Country Club in Plandome.

Of this year’s honoree, Life’s WORC President/CEO Peter Smergut said, “Alan Hodish is an exemplary example of an individual who has made giving to his community his life’s work. In his public service as a teacher/coach, in his professional role as an attorney and leader in his field and through his continued civic and community involvement, Alan has demonstrated qualities we all aspire to have.”

Hodish, a native of Cambria Heights, Queens and current resident of East Meadow, holds a Bachelor’s degree from C.W. Post College and Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law. His career began as a teacher in the Hempstead School District, where he served for over 20 years and was a successful coach. 

In 1982 and 1983, Hodish received “Coach of the Year” honors. Also, during his teaching and coaching tenure, he was a member of the coaching staff that that earned the school’s football team New York State titles in 1986 and 1989. Additionally, under his leadership as head coach of lacrosse, two league championships were captured in 1983 and 1985.  He proudly notes that many of his lacrosse student-athletes went on to play lacrosse collegiately and several earned college All American honors with leading institutions such as: West Point, Cornell, Brown, Rutgers and Adelphi. Mr. Hodish also served as President of the Nassau County Lacrosse Coaches Association from 1984-1985.
