Assemblymen Tom McKevitt and Michael A. Montesano and  recently held a Car Seat Safety Check Event sponsored by the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board as an opportunity for members of the community with young children to get a first hand lesson on proper methods for car seat safety.

Led by Nassau County Traffic Safety Educator Chris Mistron, on May 21 in Hicksville and on May 28 in Garden City, residents learned how to learn how to properly and safely install a child’s car seat, offering step-by-step instructions.

At the Hicksville event, Montesano thanked Mistron and the staff of the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board for making the event possible and addressed how important car seat safety is.

“According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 75 percent of parents nationwide do not properly use child safety restraints in their vehicles,” he said.

In Garden City, McKevitt emphasized the importance of the event as well, “This event is a great opportunity for parents, much like myself, to learn better ways of keeping our children safe in vehicles,” he said.
