Barnum Woods students attend 9/11 tribute

Posted

On Sept. 13, third-grade students in Susan Pepper’s and Jodi Covello’s classes from Barnum Woods Elementary School visited the Nassau County Supreme Court in Mineola to attend a tribute to those lost on 9/11.

The tribute began with the Barnum Woods’ students leading the “Pledge of Allegiance.” At the conclusion of the ceremony, Judge Anthony Marano recognized the “Quilt of Angels” that was created in October 2001 at Barnum Woods by staff members, students, and parents, under the direction of Pepper.

The quilt consists of artwork, letters to the heroes, and names of those who perished in the tragedy, all surrounded by stars bearing the names of the fallen heroes.

The quilt was completed on May 21, 2002 and is on permanent display in the lobby of the Supreme Court building.
