Chamber welcomes two new restaurants

Members of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce welcomed two new restaurants to the community last week: the Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille and Coasters Tavern.

The chamber participated in ribbon-cutting ceremonies for each restaurant on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Leaders greeted the owners of the Greene Turtle, located at 1740 Hempstead Turnpike, and Coasters Tavern, situated at 487 Newbridge Road.

First opened in Ocean City, Md., in 1976, the Greene Turtle includes 44 locations today in markets across Maryland and extending into Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and Long Island. Combining comfort food, a casual atmosphere and a sports bar theme marked by big screen TVs broadcasting local and national events, representatives of the restaurant said “The Turtle” has become a popular year-round destination where families, friends and fans of all ages feel at home. AOL users in Baltimore named the chain “Best Sports Bar” (December 2010) and CBS Baltimore named the Greene Turtle among the best local spots to enjoy “March Madness.” More information is available online at www.thegreeneturtle.com and .facebook.com/thegreeneturtle.

The new 6,496 square foot location in East Meadow is owned by Jeff and John Froccaro; Bryan Freund is the district manager and Matt Monastero is the general manager.

“We look forward to providing an atmosphere where both sports fans and families can come together to enjoy flavorful food, drinks and fun, all under one roof,” Monastero said in a statement. “We invite our new friends in East Meadow to join us in creating new traditions and memories.”

Sal Calamia and Vincent Sorgie own Coasters Tavern. Before Tuesday’s ceremony, the restaurant had a soft opening this summer.
Coasters Tavern features special events and promotions, including a “Paint Afternoon” on Saturday; participants will decorate holiday candle stands made of wine glasses. The owners are also accepting donations for Toys for Tots this winter.

Community members are encouraged to plan their holiday parties and special events at the tavern, which serves everything from empanadas to New York pretzels to “Italian knishes.”
