Families and friends packed into the bleachers at W. T. Clarke High School’s graduation ceremony on Sunday.

After the students marched onto the field and took their seats, the program began with “The Star Spangled Banner,” sung by Class of 2011’s Henry Morrow and signed by the American Sign Language 5H class. Next was the senior chorus’s performance of the school’s song, and speeches from Salutatorian Daniel Taylor, Valedictorian Jennifer Meade, Class President Evelyn Yeung and members of the administration.

A moment was taken to honor classmate Francesco Posillico, 17, who died in a car crash in January.

Principal Timothy Voels addressed the class with lyrics from a Pink song he heard at this year’s prom; “Don’t you ever feel like you are less than perfect. If you ever feel like you are nothing, you are perfect to me.” The graduates were warmed with their principal’s words.

After all of the names were announced and Principal Voels declared the Class of 2011 high school graduates, mortarboards were thrown and the celebrating began.
