Clarke High School's valedictorian and salutatorian

Valedictorian Justin Shanahan
   

This year’s Clarke High School Valedictorian is Justin W. Shanahan, a well-rounded student who was very involved in his school and his community.
   
Shanahan served as high school president his senior year as well as class president during his junior and senior year.  He was a Mathlete Lead Competitor and also competed in various science research contests, including a first-place finish in the 2009 Brookhaven National Laboratory Essay Competition. He was involved in National Honor Society, Italian Honor Society, Business Honor Society, English Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. 

   
Shanahan was an athlete and captain of the cross country, track, and volleyball teams. He was also a musician who was a Section Leader in the Chorale and Jazz Choir. In school, he was also involved in the Red Cross, Multicultural Club, and the Book Club. He interned at the real estate firm, CB Richard Ellis and volunteered his time at Woodbury United Methodist Church and as a mentor for the National Honor Society.
   
Shanahan was also a key part of Clarke's DECA team, which placed 10th against schools from around the world.
   
Shanahan received many awards including the 2010 Byrd Honors Scholarship and will be attending the selective program of only 37 students, the Huntsman Program, at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. He is undecided about his future plans, but said his ultimate goal is to be an ambassador for the United States.

Salutatorian Salonee Shah
   
Salonee Shah was named the salutatorian for W.T. Clarke High School's class of 2010. Shah is well known for her accomplishments in the area of scientific research, where she advanced far into the prestigious Siemens and Intel competitions. She became the first Clarke student to be named a regional finalist in the Siemens competition.
  
Beyond her scientific research, Shah is an Advanced Placement scholar, and was involved in a range of activities at Clarke. She was the editor in chief of the school’s award-winning newspaper, the Vanguard, and was president of the National Honor Society, the Distributive Educational Clubs of America, Students Against Destructive Decisions and Amnesty International. Shah was also a member of the varsity tennis team.

Outside school, she is a youth leader at her house of worship, the Jain Center of Long Island in Hicksville, and coordinates children’s services. She is also known for her talents in Indian classical dance.
