On Sunday, Aug. 22, from 6 to 10 p.m., the nonprofit group Artists in Partnership will present "Toro Nagashi: Memorializing Loved Ones Lost to Covid-19,” a multi-cultural evening of music, performance, art installations and a floating lantern launch at Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside and Harry Chapin Theatre in East Meadow.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the program will start live-streaming on Facebook at that time. Among the scheduled performers are Studio Noir Nawlins-style street band, American Indian Artists Inc., Kim Kuperschmid & Diana Schimkus, Randy Jackson of Zebra, Roger Street Friedman, Ali Dineen, Cantor Judy Merrick, Christine Solimeno, the Willow Interfaith Choir, Nehemiah Movement Gospel Group, Taiko Masala Thunder Drum Troupe and others that are to be announced.

Participants can post yellow hearts with the names of their loved ones as part of an alliance with the nonprofit organization Yellow Heart Memorial. Representatives from health organizations and Covid-19 support and resource groups will attend. Facilitators of guided meditation, yoga and mindfulness will offer informal group sessions on the grounds outside the performance area. Mats for yoga and meditation are optional. No seating will be provided.

Personalized lanterns representing residents lost to Covid-19 will be launched into the full moon-lighted lake. For inclusion, send the name of your loved one, date of their passing, photo(optional) and a message to: toronagashi21@gmail.com. Volunteers will prepare and install a lantern for you.
