East Meadow, Clarke students to perform at All-State festival

The East Meadow School District recently announced the high school students who will be participating in All-State Music Performing Ensembles at this year’s NYSSMA Winter Conference, to be hosted in Rochester from Dec. 2 through Dec. 5. 

W. Tresper Clarke High School

Wei-Ming Koh, clarinet, Symphonic Band

Eric Ratner, trombone, Instrumental Jazz Ensemble

East Meadow High School

Jordan Fried, bass trombone, Instrumental Jazz Ensemble

Andrew Hochler, trumpet, Wind Ensemble

Emily Ilson, soprano, Women’s or Mixed Chorus

Marc Kabigting, clarinet, Symphonic Band

Samuel Pollenz, trumpet, Instrumental Jazz Ensemble

Aya Terki, cello, Symphony Orchestra

The following three students, who will be performing with the All-State Jazz Ensemble, were also selected for the following ensembles:

Samuel Pollenz, Wind Ensemble

The following students were selected as Alternates for the All-State Performing Ensembles and will automatically selected to perform in All-County in January:

W. Tresper Clarke High School

Kevin Clements, tenor saxophone

Gouri Sadananda, piccolo

Sarah Shaiman, jazz soprano voice

Nikhil Thomas, jazz bass voice

East Meadow High School

Christopher Garzia, flute

Andrew Hochler, jazz trumpet

Simon Lee, percussion

Stephan Stanzione, percussion

In addition, Anson Wang of East Meadow High School was selected as an alternate in the 2010 Piano Showcase, which takes place at the NYSSMA Winter Conference.

More than 8,000 students from across New York State audition for this honor each year at NYSSMA’s annual Spring Evaluation Festival. The competition demands the highest level of performance from each participant. 

“We are most proud of their accomplishments and of their outstanding teachers,” said Abby Behr, director of music and art.
