Man robbed by two bicyclists
A 30-year-old man was robbed on Prospect Avenue and Maplewood Drive in Westbury on April 5 around 8 p.m., police said.
According to authorities, two black men on bicycles approached the victim and demanded money, lifting their jackets to display back handguns that were tucked into their waistbands. The man was pushed to the ground and $20 was stolen from his pants pocket before the two suspects fled eastbound on Prospect Avenue, said police.
One suspect was riding a chrome-colored bicycle and was described as 5’5’’ with a thin build and between 18 and 22 years old. He was wearing a blue jacket. His accomplice was riding a black bicycle and was described as a 5’10’’ male with a thin build. He was wearing a gray jacket and shorts.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call crime stoppers at 1-800-244-8477. All callers will remain anonymous.
The teenager was crossing from the south to the north side of the street near Division Avenue when the accident occurred. According to authorities he was immediately transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where was pronounced dead.
Homicide and Eighth Squad Detectives report no apparent criminality in connection with the incident, but the vehicle involved was impounded for a brake and safety inspection.
