East Meadow Crime Watch

People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law. 

Drug arrest

 

On Dec. 28 at 8:47 p.m., a state trooper was traveling on Front Street in East Meadow when a black Jeep attempted to turn in front of him, nearly causing a collision, police said. According to state police, the trooper immediately stopped the vehicle, and interviewed the driver, Elisha Gabe of East Meadow. During the interview, police said the trooper noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. About two grams of marijuana was recovered, police said, and the defendant was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and traffic violations. 

 

Burglary

Police said there was a burglary at Beverage Barn on Front Street in East Meadow at about 3 a.m. on Dec. 20. 

Criminal mischief

A windshield was broken on a vehicle parked on Ramona Street in East Meadow on Dec. 24 at 11 a.m. 

Grand larceny

Property was taken from a vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow on Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. 

A 2003 Nissan was reported stolen from Harding Court and Post Street in East Meadow on Dec. 29. 

Brawl in the E.R. 

A patient allegedly assaulted a Nassau County police officer during a scuffle at the Nassau University Medical Center. 

According to detectives, at about 12:50 a.m. on Dec. 24, the police officer arrived to the emergency room of the NUMC and was requested to assist Public Safety officers who were engaged in a struggle with a patient, Warren Coffie of Lakeview. Coffie, 27, had become violent and disruptive in the Emergency Room, police said. During the course of the struggle, the police officer suffered a severe fracture to his leg, cops said. 

A second police officer arrived to assist his colleague and to apprehend Coffie.
