East Meadow District cancels after school and evening activities

Inclement weather has prompted the East Meadow School District to cancel all after school and evening activities on Wednesday.

Road conditions continue to worsen, as snow and sleet continue to fall across East Meadow and Long Island. Wednesday night's forecast calls for heavy snow to begin at about 7 p.m. and end before 5 a.m. on Thursday. 

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning, effective until 6 a.m. on Thursday. Forecasters are calling for accumulations of between eight inches and a foot of snow, as well as winds gusts of up to 35 mph. 

Travel is expected to be hazardous during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commute.
