PTA shares sweet snack with young scholars

Students and teachers noshed on apples dipped in honey during the New Year celebration at the Susanna E. Heiman Religious School at Temple B’nai Torah. PTA members provided the snack in hopes that the young scholars and educators are blessed with a sweet new year.


NUMC doctor receives All Stars Project award

Nassau University Medical Center physician Gilberte Rosarion received the Phyllis Hyman Phat Friend Award on Sept. 19 for her work with youngsters in Harlem and Haiti.

The award, named after the All Stars Project’s first celebrity spokesperson, is presented annually to a person who demonstrates support and concern for youth. The All Stars Project is a non-profit organization providing educational and arts enrichment activities for inner-city youth.

Town welcomes the Gallery at Westbury Plaza

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and East Meadow Chamber of Commerce member Rich Bivone were among the small group that participated in the grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Gallery at Westbury Plaza this month. The shopping center is located on Old Country Road in Westbury, the former site of Avis headquarters. Other ceremony-goers included Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin, Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Assemblyman Ed Ra and Developer Jeff Olson, of Equity One.
