A dreary day of rain did not hinder voters from supporting the East Meadow school budget on Tuesday.

East Meadow School District voters approved the $181.2 million spending plan for 2011-12 that kept the increase in spending and the tax levy at near-record lows below 2 percent. According to the official results certified by the school board on Tuesday night, 2,117 voted yes for the school budget, while 1,055 said no. The budget for the East Meadow Public Library was also approved, with 2,066 in favor and 1,029 opposed.

Joseph Danenza and Corey Fanelli cruised to reelection to the East Meadow Board of Education, earning full three-year terms as trustees. Both Danenza and Fanelli were unopposed as they vied for reelection after serving one-year terms in the 2010-11 school year. Audrey Fixell, a longtime trustee for the East Meadow Public Library’s Board of Trustees, was also unopposed and won a five-year term.

The East Meadow School District budget preserves jobs and programs and maintains current class sizes.
