The East Meadow School District has agreed on new contracts with the unions that represent teachers and school administrators.

An announcement was made at the Board of Education’s monthly communications session on March 25. The district has reached tentative agreements with leaders of the East Meadow Teachers Association and the East Meadow Supervisory and Administrative Association on a “successor contract.”

The current contracts are set to expire at the end of August. Negotiations between the bargaining units and the district began in January.

It took three years for the teachers and the district to reach a settlement on the current contract in September of 2007. The negotiations were marred by demonstrations and many heated meetings.
