E.M. man linked to string of South Shore burglaries

An East Meadow resident was arrested last Saturday after a Malverne police officer noticed evidence of a previous burglary inside the suspect’s vehicle, police said.

The officer made the arrest was made at about 12:25 a.m. on Saturday in Lynbrook, cops said.

According to detectives, the defendant, Alessandro Giannone, 41, of Rugby Road in East Meadow, used a large stone to break a glass window at La Regina Pizzeria, located at 236 Hempstead Avenue in Lynbrook. The defendant, after breaking the window, allegedly entered the store and removed a cash register, then fled the scene in a 1999 Ford Escort, police said.

The Malverne police officer confronted the suspect shortly after he drove off from the pizzeria and stopped in front of Danny’s Bagels at 8 Ocean Avenue, in Malverne, police said.

The officer, aware of past burglaries to that store, cops said, observed the vehicle in front of the location, as the officer approached the vehicle he observed a register draw with several magnets on it from La Regina Pizzeria and a screwdriver on the vehicles front seat.

Detectives said Giannone was arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, Giannone is also being charged with three prior burglaries from Malverne and Lynbrook, police said.

He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 26. As of press time, Giannone had not posted $15,000 bond or $7,500 cash, and was due back in court on Sept. 29.
