On Dec. 9, the Barnum Woods Elementary School in East Meadow was awarded a grant in the amount of $750 by ExxonMobil’s Education Alliance Program.

Peter Holmstedt, owner of the Tech Mobil station on 651 Merrick Avenue at the intersection with Bellmore Avenue in East Meadow, and his station manager Umair Bashir, presented the grant to Principal Gregory Bottari, administrative intern Kelly O’Brien, and a group of student volunteers.

Holmstedt also gave a private donation of $1,595 to Barnum Woods through his own Pennies Per Gallon program — for every gallon of gasoline sold at his station, one penny goes back to a school of his choice, which is Barnum Woods.

Bottari said he plans to use the grant and donation monies for the school’s Literacy Center and the upgrading of the school’s lobby.
