The “Dormie to Dorm Golf Showcase” is set for Monday, April 21 at the Brookville Country Club. The event, started by Andrew Richter — a 1999 East Meadow High School graduate who now lives in Syosset — aims to assist high school golfers with their game, while also networking them with collegiate golf coaches for potential recruitment.

Colleges represented at the showcase will include Adelphi, Concordia, Central Connecticut, Cobleskill, Delhi, Dowling, Farmingdale, Hofstra, Iona, Manhattanville, Mount St. Mary’s, Nassau Community, Old Westbury, NYU, Rosemont, Seton Hall, St. Joseph’s, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Richter was a four-year scholarship athlete at Adelphi University as a member of the golf team. He earned a dual degree in health and physical education.

Immediately after graduating, he began working at his current job as a health and physical education teacher in the North Shore School District, where he has continued helping golfers advance to the collegiate level. “It’s a great feeling when you’re able to write a small chapter in a young person’s success story,” said Richter, who has three children.

Richter spends his summers working at Crestwood Day Camp and School in Melville, has presented at numerous health conferences over the years, and has written an eBook called “A Healthier Tomorrow,” which presents 75 health education activities that could be implemented into school classrooms.

At the Dormie to Dorm Golf Showcase, which is open to both boys and girls, participants will receive five-plus plus hours of golf training, professional instruction, an embroidered jacket, a dozen golf balls and a biographical book of all the participants. Breakfast and lunch will also be served.

The registration fee is $200. Five percent of each registration fee will be donated to the Coaches vs. Cancer Organization.
