Sara Finkelstein, a sophomore at East Meadow High School, has been chosen as this year’s HOBY Ambassador. Sara will participate with other teens at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference this spring. This conference brings tomorrow’s leaders together with today’s recognized leaders in business, government, education, and other professions to discuss present and future issues.

Sara was selected through a rigorous process that included faculty, students, and administrators. She impressed the panel with her warmth, sincerity, and engaging smile. Her concern for others was apparent.

Sara is a very conscientious student who is also involved in various extracurricular activities that she enjoys and values. Among them are Key Club and EPIC for which she is treasurer and historian. An accomplished flutist, Sara is a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society, All-County, Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts, and the pit orchestra for the school’s theater productions.

Inspired by some wonderful teachers in her own life, Sara’s future includes working with children in some capacity. To that end, she is currently a peer mentor at Barnum Woods Elementary School, a Hebrew schoolteacher’s assistant, and summer camp counselor. Sara’s outgoing personality also makes her well suited for her position as membership chair of the local chapter of United Synagogue Youth.
