Famous Americans parade through Barnum Woods

Posted

A slew of the country’s most distinguished politicians, thinkers and inventors recently roamed the halls of Barnum Woods Elementary School — students dressed as these acclaimed individuals, that is.

Children participated in the Famous Americans Parade on Feb. 10. The festivities included a special performance by the Hip Pickles, an award-winning drum group.

Principal Greg Bottari explained that, in advance of the celebration, students researched innovators in American history. Their choices included Benjamin Franklin, Helen Keller, Jane Goodall, Pocahontas and a slew of past presidents.

While working on their research projects, students created costumes so they could resemble the person they learned about at the Famous Americans Parade. Bottari said youngsters presented what they learned to their classmates, who were also asked to guess who their peer was dressed like for the event.

Students and teachers alike were also treated to an educational and entertaining program held in conjunction with the parade. The Hip Pickles, six-time Drum Corps Associate world champions, hosted an interactive assembly featuring plenty of music.
