Gloria Gaynor, an icon from the disco era, performed last Friday at Eisenhower Park's Harry S. Chapin Lakeside Theater.
Her 1978 hit recording "I Will Survive," is a staple of the disco era. She performed a wide selection of hits from past and present.
“I Will Survive,” climbed to the top of Billboard’s “Pop Charts” the following year, received a Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording, and enjoyed particular favor among women for its portrayal of a strong woman recovering from a bad relationship. Her 1984 song, “I Am What I Am,” reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Dance Disco Hits.
Eisenhower Park’s free summer concert series continues this weekend. On Friday, the Lakeside Theater will host a presentation of “Annie Get Your Gun” at 7:30 p.m. The Raggs Children’s Show will take the stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.
