Happy holiday season begins in East Meadow

Posted

East Meadowites kicked off the holiday season at the 16th annual tree and menorah lighting ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park Town Square last week.

The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce and the Council of East Meadow Community Organizations hosted the event on Thursday, Dec. 3. Scores of local families gathered in the park, situated at the intersection of Prospect and East Meadow avenues, for an evening filled with holiday cheer.

The event featured activities for community members of all ages. Children had the chance to get their faces painted and decorate ornaments, and everyone enjoyed hot chocolate and sweet treats, which were handed out by local Boy Scout groups.

Santa Claus also made a special appearance, arriving at the park on an East Meadow Fire Department truck. Locally elected officials and community members, who were excited to snap photos with Old Saint Nick in front of the tree, greeted him.
