Kiwanians "name that tune" for a cause

East Meadowites and residents of neighboring communities alike flocked to the East Meadow Firefighters’ Benevolent Hall on Maple Avenue last week to participate in one of the Kiwanis Club’s most beloved annual programs: “Name That Tune.”

Now in its seventh year, “Name That Tune” was held on Friday, Feb. 26. The event, which features a musical trivia contest, is a fundraiser; all proceeds collected from ticket sales and donations will be used to support those in need in the community, according to the East Meadow Kiwanis Club. The group also raised money for Peter Mancuso, a local man who is running for a Kiwanis International trustee position.

Dozens of community members and neighbors from Merrick, Levittown, Bellmore and more packed the hall, — which the East Meadow Fire Department donates annually for the festivities — sampling snacks and a buffet dinner before the contest began. They were then divided into teams to play the game, which was focused on classic rock and popular music.

Several participants got into the spirit of the program by wearing their favorite band T-shirts and bringing records and albums. They also participated in a raffle.
Kiwanians Alan Hodish and Harry Demiris organized the event. Jim Smith, a past president of the club, served as the judge.
