East Meadow resident and Farmingdale State Rams centerfielder Edward Bergmann was named the Most Valuable Player of the Skyline Tournament, a Division III collegiate baseball conference.

The Rams defeated Old Westbury 5 to 2 last Sunday, earning their seventh straight Skyline championship. The team did not lose a game during the double-elimination postseason tournament.

Bergmann, 22, an ’09 graduate of East Meadow High School, hit a team-leading .441 with 23 RBIs and 29 stolen bases in 33 games this season. He was one of six Rams named to the division’s All-Conference team.

With the victory, the Rams earned the conference’s automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Baseball Regionals. The team now awaits their regional site and first opponent, which will be announced by the NCAA on May 11.
