A man surrendered at about 5:45 p.m. on Sunday after police said he locked himself inside a Salisbury home with his son for about six-and-a-half hours.
According to detectives, at about 11:15 a.m., the man entered his ex-girlfriend’s home on Park Street by breaking a basement window and then refused to leave after repeatedly being told to do so by the victim. Police said an argument between the man and the woman began when he tried to leave the property with their 13-year-old son. The woman called police, and upon arrival of authorities, police said the defendant grabbed his son and barricaded himself inside the home.
The Third Squad led the police response. The Bureau of Special Operations, Emergency Services and Hostage Negotiations accompanied also responded to the scene. Heavily armed officers were stationed on the roof of a Carman Avenue building. During the standoff, the area was closed off around Park Street, which is just east of Carman Avenue and south of Stewart Avenue.
