Montesano defeats Meng in special election

According to unofficial results released by the Nassau County Board of Elections, Republican Michael Montesano defeated Democrat Matthew Meng in the race for the vacant seat in the state's 15th Assembly District.

Montesano totaled 3,868 votes, while Meng garnered 1,539, according to the election board.

Montesano, a Glen Head resident, owns a law practice in Glen Cove and is a former school board president in the North Shore School District and previously an acting village justice in Roslyn Heights.

The 15th Assembly District encompasses Salisbury, a portion of East Meadow, Hicksville, and several communities on the North Shore in the towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay.

The spot was vacated when Rob Walker of Hicksville became the chief deputy under County Executive Ed Mangano.
