Nassau police seek purse-snatchers

Thieves struck in East Meadow, Merrick, Baldwin

Nassau County police are alerting residents to be on the lookout for two men who robbed several women this month in East Meadow, Merrick, North Merrick, Baldwin, Wantagh and Levittown.

According to police, the female victims were approached in their driveways as they exited their vehicles. The subjects then forcibly nabbed their pocketbooks, detectives said.

At least seven incidents have occurred since Oct. 23.

Police reported that the thieves struck on Marlboro Street in East Meadow on Nov. 7, Howes Street in North Merrick on Nov. 11, 50 Grand Avenue in Merrick on Nov. 10, Edwards Street in Baldwin on Oct. 23 and Marcel Road in Baldwin on Nov. 13.

All seven reported incidents occurred between 6:55 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Multiple sources told the Herald that at least two additional robberies occurred in East Meadow the same week as the Marlboro Street incident on Nov. 7.

On Wednesday, police released a sketch of one of the thieves. The first subject was described as a black male, about 20 years old, between five-foot-four and five-foot-six with a thin build and dark clothing. The second subject was described as a black male, between 20 and 25 years old and six feet and six-foot-two in height with a medium build and dark clothing. Police also said they were seen driving in a dark-colored, possibly gray, four-door sedan.
