Hospital workers celebrate World Breastfeeding Week

Perinatal staff at Nassau University Medical Center recognized World Breastfeeding Week by providing information to pregnant women and new mothers who stopped by the hospital on Aug. 6.

Obstetricians and neonatal nurses took a break from their daily routines to share breastfeeding benefits with new mothers and pregnant women who passed by the informational booth in the lobby. The women were also entered into a free raffle filled with items for mom and baby.

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from Aug. 1 to Aug. 7 in more than 170 countries and encourages women to breastfeed. It also commemorates a decision made by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to promote and support breastfeeding.
