Partly Cloudy Police: Man dies after being struck by police car
Craig Schiffer, 54, was struck by a Suffolk police car in East Islip
An East Meadow man was fatally struck by a Suffolk County police car in East Islip on Dec. 27, according to Suffolk County police.
Police say Craig Schiffer, 54, was crossing Main Street at about 10:30 p.m., when he was hit by a police vehicle traveling eastbound.
Schiffer was transported by Islip Exchange Ambulance Company to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was later pronounced dead.
Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating the accident. The vehicle, which was occupied by two officers, was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. No one else was injured.
