A tribute

Potter’s Pub will host the 3rd Annual Frank Murphy Toy Drive this Sunday, Dec. 4. “Frank Murphy was a loyal customer and friend,” said pub owner Mike Amitrano. Before his death three years ago, Murphy would collect toys and drop them off at Nassau University Medical Center on Christmas Eve. Amitrano, among other friends, now collect toy donations in his honor.

Amitrano, who has been the owner of Potter’s Pub since 1990 when he took over at 28 years old, said Murphy was in his 40s when he unexpectedly died from an enlarged heart.

This year the pub is selling $5 raffle tickets, or 5 for $20, and collecting toys and gift certificates for patients at the hospital.

To thank those who donate, Amitrano and his family is hosting a free tailgate at the pub on Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. He said the family-friendly event will include free hamburgers and hot dogs, arts and crafts for the kids, face painting and a special appearance by Santa Claus.

Amitrano will accept gift donations for the children at NUMC until Christmas Eve. For more information, call Potter’s Pub at (516) 794-6698.
