Sal Pellegrino named grand marshal of East Meadow Memorial Day Parade

Sal Pellegrino will serve as Grand Marshal of the East Meadow Veterans Memorial Day Parade, to take place on Monday.
Pellegrino, 80, commander of East Meadow VFW Post No. 2736, is a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Korean War. He has served five years as a VFW post commander.
Pellegrino was a lead advocate for getting a new Veterans Administration health clinic at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. The new and improved health center for local veterans is slated to open by the end of the year.
The Herald recognized Pellegrino as its Person of the Year for 2009.
The Memorial Day Parade kicks off from East Meadow High School on Monday at 10 a.m., and will end up at Veterans Memorial Park on Prospect Avenue and East Meadow Avenue for a special ceremony to cap off the festivities. Parade participants will begin gathering in the EMHS parking lot at 9 a.m.
