Salisbury resident captures Scholar-Artist Award

Posted

Clarke senior Emily Mervosh was awarded the Nassau County Long Island Scholar-Artist award for the month of February. A profile and photo of Emily will appear in Newsday and on Newsday.com in February.

The Scholar-Artist program was established by school and community arts teachers and administrators and is sponsored by the Long Island Arts Alliance, with support from the Roslyn Savings Foundation. These organizations recognize Long Island students excelling in music, visual arts, dance, theater, and media arts by featuring their stories in Newsday, Newsday.com, and by presenting them to the public at an annual recognition event at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.

Emily was chosen for the prestigious award from a pool of more than 100 candidates nominated by Long Island’s public school districts, private and parochial schools. A committee of arts educators analyzed all applications and audition tapes for academic and artistic achievement. Emily won based on her tremendous dedication to music, her artistic presentation of a four mallet marimba piece, her grade point average, and outstanding letters of reference.
