State testing

Students who decline tests can read

Posted

Students whose parents refuse the state assessments for them will be permitted to read a book quietly at their desk during this month’s exams, a change Superintendent Louis DeAngelo confirmed to the Herald on March 30.

In past years, students who declined the tests were not allowed to read, and instead were administered the test with the expectation of sitting quietly for its duration. Parents often complained at Board of Education meetings, asking for this to change.

As the Herald went to press, it was not clear how many students in East Meadow would be declining the exams.
