Drag Queen Story Hour

Bella Noche, the drag mermaid storyteller, is back with her drag sister Annie Manildoo for an East Meadow Public Library program at the Samanea New York Market, the former Source Mall, in Westbury on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. The program focuses on inclusion, acceptance and that everyone is special. Guests will hear a story and then do crafts. This is a wonderful time for those from 3 to 9 years old. All children must have their grownup present. Register by calling 516-794-2570 ext. 560.

Graves/Thyroid Foundation Charity Event

Stop by the Pit Of Iron Gym, at 589 East Meadow Ave., on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 12 p.m. and compete in a fitness challenge for a cause. There is a $30 competition fee that will be donated to Grave's Disease and Thryroid Foundation and a $5 fee to watch. Do as many back squat reps as possible in one try, with no re-racking. The squats must be as close to parallel as possible maintaining consistent depth through out. There is no time limit once the bar is un-racked. Weights are non-gender, age or weight class specific and are in the following intervals: 95, 135, 225 and 315 pounds.

Fundraiser for the family of ex-captain Michael Smith

Michael Smith, a former captain of the East Meadow Fire Department, was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in November and died on Dec. 28, at age 55. To help his family offset medical expenses, EMFD members are hosting a fundraiser for his family on Feb. 9, from 3 to 9 p.m., at department headquarters, at 197 East Meadow Ave. Tickets are $10, and there will be food, music, raffles and a Chinese auction. The psychic medium Kim Russo will give gallery-style readings from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tickets for a reading are $50, and $70 for a reading with a meet-and-greet.
