Community pulls for Samantha Eisenberg's recovery from serious accident

“Every little thing, is going to be all right.”

That simple message is on hundreds of green bracelets sported by community members in support of Samantha Eisenberg, a 21-year-old East Meadow resident who remains in a coma after a serious auto accident in Rochester. N.Y., on Feb. 12.

Eisenberg was in the back seat of a car with four friends who were traveling from a friend’s home in Rochester back to Buffalo State College, where all five are students, at about 12:30 p.m., when witnesses said that a tractor trailer ran a red light and collided with the automobile.

According to a statement released by Buffalo State, three of the occupants were treated and released with “significant, but not life-threatening,” injuries. Eisenberg and friend Jessica Brown remained at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester as the Herald went to press on Tuesday.

Eisenberg was in intensive care, and was listed in critical but stable condition. She suffered severe injuries to her head and brain, including multiple skull and bone fractures.

A member of East Meadow High School’s class of 2007, Eisenberg is in her first year at Buffalo State after taking classes at Nassau Community College. She is studying fashion merchandising, friends said, and was excited to go away to school for the first time.

Melanie Rosner, a close friend and high school classmate, teamed up with others to form Bracelets for Sam, a fundraiser for Eisenberg’s family to help cover her medical expenses.

Initially, the group planned to sell 200 bracelets, but they were quickly snapped up. After 600 more were sold, the group is ordering more.

“We didn’t expect this much,” said Rosner, a student at Hofstra. “How much energy people are putting into this is incredible.”

She added, “Samantha is so full of life. She is hysterical, and can make anybody laugh, really. It’s so upsetting to see something awful happen to such a good person.”
