’Tis the season in East Meadow

One of East Meadow’s most festive traditions took place on Dec. 5 — the 13th annual Christmas tree and menorah lighting in Veterans Memorial Park, on the intersection of East Meadow and Prospect Avenues.

Co-hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and the Council of East Meadow Community Organizations, the annual holiday lighting brings the community together during one of the most joyous times of the year.

Chamber past president Richard Bivone has served as the Masters of Ceremonies since the start of the lighting tradition in 2000. Coordinators included Liz Fries, CEMCO’s corresponding secretary, and Chamber President Dolores Rome.

The East Meadow Fire Department, led by Chief Walter Griffin, came out with their fire trucks and brought Santa into Town Square, much to the delight of the children.

Boy Scout Troop 362, who served hot chocolate during the frigid evening, also assisted Avidor Herez, commander of Jewish War Veterans, with the Color Guard. The East Meadow High School Brass Choir, guided by Director Molly Tittler, played music for the crowd.

Indeed, the holiday season is alive and well in East Meadow this year.
