On Wednesday, Aug. 17, Chamber of Commerce President Walter Skinner accepted an $8,250 grant on behalf of the organization. The grant was provided by the Town of Hempstead to fund local youth-centered programs.

Last year the grant provided to the Chamber was used to fund projects for the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and additional East Meadow organizations, Skinner said.

With only two requests submitted, it is undecided who will benefit from the donation, but the decision will be made within the next few Chamber meetings, he said. “While these organizations are getting the grants, it’s really the children who will benefit,” said Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray.

East Meadow children-centered organizations interested in acquiring a portion of the funds are requested to send a written submission to the Chamber of Commerce; 2066 Front Street, East Meadow.
