East Meadow VFW to unite at their memorial

East Meadow residents who wish to spend Veterans Day with those who served their country in the armed forces can visit Veterans Memorial Park on Wednesday, Nov. 11. There, members of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 2736 will be enjoying breakfast with one another, and then will gather by their memorial inside the park.

The park is located at the intersection of East Meadow and Prospect avenues. The memorial is west of the intersection, near the entrance to the pool.

Nassau County will also be hosting celebrations in and around East Meadow. Its annual Veterans Day Parade will take place at on Sat., Nov. 7. This year’s event includes a special tribute to veterans who served in the Korean War, including former Nassau County Veterans Agency Director Joseph Pascarella, who will be posthumously honored for the years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at the LIRR commuter parking lot on Union Avenue in Westbury, ending at 373 Maple Ave., Westbury. Light refreshments will be served following the parade at the Cpl. James F. Walsh VFW Post No. 945 at 403 Maple Ave. For more information, contact the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency at (516) 572-6565.

The county’s annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place the following day, on Sun., Nov. 8 at 10 a.m., at the Veteran Plaza in Eisenhower Park, Field No. 6.
