Water district: keep fire hydrants clear of snow

The Hicksville Water District, which includes an eastern portion of East Meadow, is advising residents to keep local area fire hydrants clear from snow.

Following Wednesday's blizzard that swept across Long Isaldn, many of the approximately 1600 hydrants spread across the district were covered by extra snow from plows and shovels, district officials said, which makes it difficult to locate quickly during emergency situations.

“Keep the fire hydrant closest to your residence or business clear of snow, approximately a 3-foot radius around the hydrant,” said HWD Commissioner Nick Brigandi. “All residents and business owners should be extremely careful when shoveling snow and be aware of vehicle traffic.”
